Graduate Requirements
Graduate Students.
The ESL Placement Exam (ESLPE) places students into one of the classes below or exempts them from any further English classes.
Students are asked to take the ESLPE in the check list they received when they were admitted to UCLA. Students cannot choose their own courses.
Students are not allowed to take two of these courses at the same time.
Students must finish these requirements by the end of the first year of their program.
Here is the sequence of courses for students entering UCLA as Graduate students.

Exempt
Unfortuately, students are not allowed to take any UCLA classes to improve their English if they are exempted by the ESL Placement exam.
The only exceptions to this are International TAs. They may take further courses to improve their English.
