Laurel Westrup holds a B.A. in Communication from UC San Diego, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Cinema and Media Studies from UCLA. She joined Writing Programs full time in 2011, having previously served as a Teaching Fellow and Teaching Assistant Consultant with Writing Programs. She has continued this work as a faculty mentor for new Writing Programs teaching assistants. Laurel teaches English Composition 3, English Composition 131B, and an Honors Collegium seminar on sampling, remix, and cultural appropriation. She is co-editor, with David Laderman, of Sampling Media (Oxford University Press, 2014), and her scholarship has also appeared in the journals Film and History and Spectator. Laurel is currently working on a manuscript that traces the genealogy of music video.
