Andrew Lavin, UCLA Ph.D. in Philosophy

I got a lot out of the Graduate Certificate in Writing Pedagogy program. I got a chance to design course elements like assignments and rubrics, to see alternatives, and to refine my own tools and assignments. I got to engage in different forms of error correction and to develop my own writing feedback policies and styles. The classroom observation was very useful as well. Having the certificate in itself and the experiences I can discuss in my cover letters and teaching statements will be invaluable, since I plan to apply to many positions where teaching is emphasized.
